King of Wings 2013 -

To add extra spice to an already awesome Scardifield Sprintcar King of Wings lineup for this Saturday at Perth Motorplex, Sydney Sprintcar ace Ian Loudoun is a confirmed starter at a venue where he has delivered in spades before. Loudoun will take up driver duties with the Western Australian Peet family racing team for a solid list of events, of which many include the Perth Motorplex, starting this Saturday…

“I met Shannon Peet and his family at the Krikke Boys Race last year when Max Dumesny drove for them… and it sort of grew from there,” recalled Loudoun. That meet-and-greet then developed into a racing opportunity at the Grand Final event last season at Perth Motorplex, where despite next to no racing laps through last season, the likeable Sydney-sider was able to snare a podium place finish. “Rick Sawyer is our crew chief and comes in with good experience and the Peet team are really impressive in what they have given me, we will have a couple of complete Maxim cars as well as some stout Maxwill Engines to slot in there as well.”

Sprintcar fans and racers around Australia will be delighted to see the man they call ‘Wazza’ back racing for many reasons. Loudoun is a proven performer having secured World Series round wins (and at Perth Motorplex to boot!) and a winner of Parramatta Speedway track championships and a Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic crown. But most importantly – it is well established that Ian Loudoun is one of the genuine nice guys of the sport.

“Probably taking a racing break after winning the 2012 Classic wasn’t the smartest move for my racing, but it was always the plan to dissolve the team after my dad (Dennis) passed away and it was a time to focus on family…and I was happy to do that.” However as he sat in the stands regularly at his home track in Sydney last season, it became clear to Ian that he needed to get back in the saddle of a 900-horsepower Sprintcar! “It was getting hard to watch the racing sometimes… so I knew that I would eventually get back into it, if the right opportunity came up and it has with the Peet team. “ “I look at doing the next 3 weeks with them out West, also some more West Coast rounds later in the season, including the big WSS events at Perth too, before taking in the Grand Annual Classic and Australian Title with them… I am sure Perth fans will get a chance to see us race a few times this season for sure.”

Loudoun heads West with one racing stint under his belt with Sydney car owner Dave Doherty - and ran straight into a 3rd place finish. “The car felt great and I enjoyed the racing, but with the lack of laps right now I am just missing that bit of race fitness and instinctive racing you need in lap traffic…but I have no doubt that it will come to me pretty quickly the more laps I do this season.” As for the Perth Motorplex, Loudoun has always been in contention here with World Series A-Main wins, several podium places as well as a top-5 in the Australian title held at the Kwinana Beach venue… “Obviously I really like the Perth Motorplex… my driving style suits the place, particularly when it slicks off and get to run the top like they do over there. Also the track suits the rim-riders and I really like that as the cars rotate through the corners with a lot more speed than we do say at my home track in Parramatta.” “The other impressive thing in Perth is you have some real hard on the gas racers. I see Cameron Gessner has slotted in great over there and I have seen first hand… how hard guys like David Priolo and Jason Kendrick run. It really is impressive to watch those guys race every lap as hard as the lap before. They get your attention out there,” smiled Loudoun with a quiet chuckle.

Loudoun doesn’t see this relationship with Team Peet as a flash in the pan either… “The Peet team want to build their program moving forward… and I am keen to be part of it, as they build their racing schedule up over the next few seasons.” …and THAT – is great news for Sprintcar fans – everywhere. See Wazza do what Wazza does best – this Saturday for the Scardifield Smash King of Wings!
